Everyone is just so, super busy lately, and it’s just the second week of the semester! Let me just mention some of them…

I’ve been sorting out the Redang Trip photos as their respective owners pass them to me one-by-one… 1000+ photos gathered up till now! Crazy!

Redang Pics!

And that’s not all! There are still 4 cameras coming and I’m gonna try to upload them all! Really dunno how much space is going to be taken… =/

Anyway, while sorting out the photos, I discovered some interesting facts about the differences in photo-taking habits between guys and girls.

STATISTIC #1: Girls take about 300% more photos than boys.

STATISTIC #2: Boys are 250% more likely to take scenery pictures (without people) than girls.

STATISTIC #3: Girls are 300% more likely to repeat taking a photo of the same background, with the same people. (With different poses, of course!)

These statistics were taken from a sample of 1073 photos – 6 cameras, taken by 3 guys and 3 girls. And they are actually not that accurate, cuz some of the girls ‘censored’ the photos and removed a handful of their ‘private’ ones before passing to me!

Anyway, I hope to be able to have all of the photos ready before the club registration week next week…

Meanwhile, Jon and the group are having their MMU Tech Fair over at the FIT building and I was there helping out (a bit!).

Jon and the group's Tech Fair!

There was a ‘highest buyer of the day’ prize and I almost won it for the first day but was defeated at the last minute, literally!!! At the very last minute before Jon stood up to announce the winner, a guy came with a receipt that is RM6 higher than mine and became the winner!

RM6 only!!! And I lost!!! Rawr!

Yesterday I went for the Presidents’ Council Meeting (PCM) with Jon and Alex for the first time. Nothing much special and quite boring, actually! But we finally got the number for our booth in the grand hall during the club registration week.

SUICIDE ATTEMPT!!!

A few days ago, there was a suicide attempt in Cyberjaya!

More specifically, in Cyberia Condominiums!

More specifically, in Block C1!

More Specifically, just 1 floor beneath where I’m staying!

AAAaaaaaaaaaa!

That day, I was in my room when I heard someone screaming agonizingly as if tortured. I couldn’t figure out what the voice was saying but I went out of my unit to have a look.

There was a crowd of people gathering just 1 floor beneath me, and when I was still looking, a couple of firemen bustled along the corridor and into one of the units.

At that time, I thought it’s probably someone trapped in the lift, because that has happened before here, but I went down anyway and heard people talking about someone’s ‘going to fall down’ or something like that…

No one could get into the unit itself to have a look, so we waited around for quite some time and then the crowd eventually dispersed. Rather confused, I went back to my own unit as well – without knowing exactly what happened.

A couple of days later, we were informed that a woman tried to commit suicide that day, but was later saved by the authorities.

My God… We’ve already got someone falling from the 18th floor near MMU Melaka, we don’t really want that in Cyberjaya too, please!

A blogger got some photos of this incident, you can have a look here!

If charging RM1.80 for a glass of Milo is outrageous and can be fined RM22,500 with the shop’s signboard torn down in Malaysia, then I think vendors in Redang Island are in deep risk!

Not to mention that the mamak stall in Cyberjaya IS currently selling Milo at RM1.80 per glass, why didn’t anyone sue them?

Yes, I know… Costs of goods are different in various locations… Right? But what about RM40 for a ‘claypot seafood‘? Or RM8 for a Mi Goreng?

Here’s the price display that everyone saw at a restaurant in Redang Island.

Prices of Food!

RM8 for a fried anchory, no, should be anchovy… And singular?! RM8 for ONE cute little 4cm-long fish?! Don’t scare the tourists ler, change the word to anchovies! =)

But still, RM8 for a bowl of ikan bilis goreng is a bit too much la… :(

Look at the cheapest item in the list – French Fried! Literally: ‘Orang Perancis digoreng‘! – RM5!

OMG cannibalism! No wonder we didn’t see a lot of Europeans here in Redang Island! All kena fried already!

Outdoor Restaurant in Redang

Like any other tourist attraction, normal items in Redang are also sold at at least 150% of normal prices.

For example: A bottle of 1.5L mineral water is sold at RM3. And those’re the ones that are kept on the shelf (room temperature). If you want refrigerated ones (a nice, cool drink under Redang’s hot sun), the price of the same bottle of mineral water shoots up to RM3.80!

How can…? That’s kinda like taking advantage of the poor thirsty tourists under the scorching sun…! Since when tourist attractions have the license to monopolise the prices and set high mark-ups like nobody’s business…? =(

Anyway, I must admit that high as the prices are, they are nothing compared to Genting’s RM10 wantan noodles… Haha!

Redang Beach

2nd day: 6.15am – Some eager guys and girls woke up early in the morning to watch the oceanic sunrise! Indeed, I imagine it would be extremely beautiful, but I spared myself from waking up sooo early in the morning – 6am leh! Sigh… Long day ahead… Zzzzzz…

In fact, I even skipped breakfast, which was at 7.30am… So I had a whole can of Pringles for breakfast! Haha!

For the next activity, we went for (again) snorkelling, at Redang Marine Park. It is a closed-conservation area of magnificent corals and fishes off the beach of a nearby island.

Marine Park

We were given (presumably exipred) bread to be fed to the fish while snorkelling! It was really an exciting experience to have schools of cute fishes swimming around and nibbling on the bread from your fingers! Some of fish even thought my hand was part of the food and nibbled on it, too!

Later, my friends and I got bored of feeding fish so we started catching fish with the plastic bags originally used to contain bread. I know we’re not allowed to do that but we just couldn’t resist, we even caught a few small jellyfish! Of course, we freed all our ‘captives’ later, unharmed!

The water near the edge of the buoy-closed boundary was quite deep, and sometimes I couldn’t help but think – what if a lost, hungry shark wandered into the area, and saw all the small wiggling feet with yummy flesh in life jackets on the surface of the water…? Aiks!

Lot's of Fish!

We went back to the resort at around 12.30pm and had lunch. Jon told me that he and Alex wouldn’t be going for the next snorkelling activity, and we had to take care of ourselves. No Tour Leader!! Die lor!

We also planned for a surprise early birthday celebration at night for our Programmes Director, Pegan, whose birthday was in 4 days time!

At 2.30pm (time with super duper red-hot scorching sunshine), we went for the 3rd and final group snorkelling activity at an area near another island.

There were much less fish here, but the corals were fantastic! Pretty much the nicest ones among the 3 snorkelling sites!

Beach sunset

During tea break and free time in the late afternoon of the 2nd day, everyone was enjoying the last period of time at the beach before having to leave the island the next morning.

I went snorkelling at the so-called ‘baby shark’ area, Jon went parasailing, David, Steven and Glen went for a long distance swim around a small island, some others went for visits to the infamous More More Tea Inn Souvenir Shop at Laguna Resort, and most of the rest were simply strolling along the beach enjoying the calm sea breeze and taking photos.

MoreMoreTea Inn Souvenir Shop

We were served BBQ for dinner, yes, served. We couldn’t grill the food ourselves like in normal BBQs, thus missing out the fun, but also – thankfully - the heat. We’ve had enough ’sun-heat’ for the past 2 days so I guess everyone’s fine with it!

After dinner, me and my friends went for a visit at Redang Reef Resort, Err… I mean Resot.

Redang Reef Resot!

My friends also grabbed some souvenirs and me a present for our burfday gal from the More More Tea Inn Souvenir Shop!

At around 9pm we celebrated Pegan’s birthday with a huge *splat* of her face on the birthday cake! Somebody even bought some gin and vodka! Aww… Ain’t it nice to have 80 people celebrating your birthday at the beach?

After everything’s finished, around 10pm, Jon and I retreated to set up the traditional Tourism Club trip committee’s casino, err… no, pay-for-entertainment session in his room. Glen and Steven graciously sponsored the essentials for a hyped up nite!

Steven with the Beer!

Unfortunately, two major groups of the committee who played with us during the previous Taman Negara trip didn’t participate in this trip. So our game was greatly reduced in size, with only around 9 participants. =(

At around 1am, the rest of Jon’s roommates were back. We were using their beds as tables so we had to leave. Jon and the rest went to sleep but Alex and a few of us went to the canteen to continue!

Happy Final Night!

At 5am, we ended the game and went back to our rooms for a hot shower and a 2-hour super-brief sleep till the morning.

We checked-out from our rooms at 9.30am the next morning, bought a last few souvenirs and took some final photos. After taking the charming group photo of all the participants cramped together, we boarded the ship that brought us to the ferry back to the mainland.

A rather interesting event happened though – the first ship was stuck in the sand when it docked at the shallow water of the sea! The captain spent 20 minutes of fruitless effort to steer the ship out of the sand before requesting half of the passengers to alight the ship and help push it away from the shallow water!

Everyone pushing the ship back!

Thanks to the efforts of everyone, the ship was finally pushed out of its stuck position and sadly we bid in our hearts – bye bye Pulau Redang!

After leaving the island, we had lunch in Chinatown in Kuala Terengganu and headed on another, sigh, 9-hour journey back to Cyberjaya!

All in all, the trip was a success, and we have the Trip Director – Agnes, and all the committee members to thank! The sun-tan might last for only a few weeks, but the memories will last for a long long time!
